Last updated: March 10, 2022

All students, staff, faculty, and axillary employees must notify* SJSU via the Report a Case form when they:

  • Have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive
  • Have symptoms of COVID-19 and are awaiting a test
  • Have tested positive for COVID-19
  • Have been directed to complete this form after using the SJSU self-screening tool

* Particularly if expected to be on campus or was on campus within the previous two weeks

You may be contacted by the Case Management team from the SJSU Student Wellness Center for support, resources, and more information.

 Isolation Guidelines

If you have tested positive for COVID-19, please follow these important guidelines:

  • Stay home until you have recovered and are not infectious
  • Do not come to campus at any time during isolation. If you live on-campus, you are required to stay in your assigned isolation space
  • Should you start to display symptoms, please seek medical attention if needed
  • Please respond if you are contacted by the Case Management team from the SJSU Student Wellness Center
  • If you do not live on-campus, visit the Home Quarantine and Isolation Guidelines website from Santa Clara County Public Health for more information

Students living in On-Campus Housing

To help protect our campus community, isolation and quarantine guidelines for students living in University residences may differ from the general student population.

Persons who test positive for COVID-19 and live in congregate settings such as University residences need to isolate themselves from others.

  • Stay home for 10 days. There is no option to test out of isolation.
  • If fever is present at the end of 10 days, isolation should be continued until 24 hours has passed without feve
  • If symptoms other than fever are not resolving, isolate until symptoms are better or until after day 10

General Student Population

Persons who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate themselves from others. For those who do not live in congregate settings (such as University Housing), please following the guidelines below:

  • Isolate and stay home for at least 5 days
  • Isolation only can end after day 5 if the second test collected Day 5 or later (preferably a rapid antigen test) is negative
  • If no test is done or you still test positive on Day 5, and symptoms are still present or not resolving, isolation can end after Day 10
  • Whether you test negative or not, if you are not feeling better, continue to isolate until after Day 10 AND until fever-free.
  • Wear a mask around others for a total of 10 days

If you have received a positive COVID-19 test and are required to participate in testing protocols, you are exempt from testing requirements for 90-days. If you tested at a site outside of SJSU, upload your results using the Submit Test Results form on the Sammy App to be removed from testing.

During the 90-day window, continue to complete the Check Your Symptoms form on the Sammy App and follow the instructions provided. After 90-days, you will be reinstated in testing protocols and will receive weekly reminders to test.
