Prescription Information

Prescription medication may be purchased at the Student Wellness Center (SWC 130) Pharmacy, which is licensed by the State of California and adheres to all applicable State codes and regulations.

  • Bring a picture I.D. to every Student Wellness Center visit
  • Prescriptions from outside physicians can be filled if the medication is stocked by the pharmacy.  
  • Students who purchase supplemental health insurance or have private insurance may submit prescription receipts to their insurance for reimbursement.  The pharmacy does not accept any insurance plans or submit claims.  
  • Students may take prescriptions written by Student Wellness Center clinicians to outside pharmacies for filling if desired.

Payment is due at time of purchase via our SWC Patient Portal. Charges are typically posted the next business day on the Account Summary Tab.

To refill a prescription originally filled at the Student Wellness Center Pharmacy:

  • If there are valid refills (less than 1 year old) available on the prescription, come by or call the Student Wellness Center Pharmacy at 408-924-6115 to request the refill. To decrease waiting time, it is best to call at least 24 hours prior to the next pharmacy business day.
  • If there are no refills left on the prescription, you may:
    • Call your prescriber to request a new prescription, or
    • Call 408-924-6115 to ask the pharmacist to contact your prescriber for refill authorization, or
    • Call your prescriber to phone a refill to 408-924-6115 or to fax the refill request to 408-924-6298.

To transfer a prescription from an outside pharmacy to the Student Wellness Center Pharmacy:

  • If there are refills remaining at the other pharmacy, call 408-924-6115 or come to the Student Wellness Center Pharmacy with your prescription label. We will call the other pharmacy for the transfer. The transaction should be completed by the next pharmacy business day.
  • If there are no refills left on the prescription, you may:
    • Call your prescriber to request a new prescription, or
    • Call 408-924-6115 to ask the pharmacist to contact your prescriber for refill authorization, or
    • Call your prescriber to phone a refill to 408-924-6115 or to fax the refill request to 408-924-6298.

Over-the-Counter Medications

Disposing of Sharps and Medication

  • A bin is located in front of the Pharmacy to dispose of sharps. Bring your sharps to the pharmacy counter before placing them in the bin. The pharmacy will determine if the sharps are placed in a safe container for disposal or a container will be provided before it should be placed in the bin.
  • You may safely dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs at the 24/7 Drug Disposal Drop-Box at the Office of the Sheriff, 55 West Younger Ave. San Jose (cross street is North First Street). No appointment is needed. No needles. If you have questions, call 800-211-2220 or 408-808-4405.
