Petitions
Petitions for Current Student
A current student who would like to intern at their place of employment must complete a petition to request to intern with that agency. The employer must also adhere to the SJSU guidelines and policies. It is important to note that the employee’s paid role must be separate from the internship role. The Field Office cannot guarantee approval in advance because of different variables that may exist. In addition, there is not a guarantee that your agency will be approved. We also encourage students to consider two different placements each year as this is the only opportunity to be a MSW student and gain valuable social work experience in this process.
Current students who plan on completing a petition to request to intern at your place of employment are asked to please complete the document and submit it with all required documents no later than April 3rd, 2023.
The petition application period has passed as of 4/3/2023 and The Field Education Office will not be accepting any new petition requests. Petition applications are now closed.
Petition to Intern 2nd year at same Field Education Site as First Year
We highly recommend that students choose a different agency for their final year so that they can experience a variety of agency structures, policies, leadership, programs and interventions. Students may petition to request to intern at the same agency for a second year. The Field Office cannot guarantee that this petition will be approved. Student’s request may be denied and will be required to find another internship. Students still need to interview with at least two other agencies while completing the petition process. Students are asked to please complete the document and submit it no later than April 3rd.
Fall 2022-Spring 2023 is the last year the Field Education Office is accepting petitions for returning to the same field education site as the student had in their first year. This option will be obsolete and will not continue. The petition application period has passed as of 4/3/2023 and The Field Education Office will not be accepting any new petition requests. Petition applications are now closed.
