Radical Self Care in the Midst of Injustice and Anti-Blackness

Date: Tuesday, November 10

Time: 4:00PM-5:00PM

Facilitator: Cat Fillmore

Black writer Audre Lorde wrote, "Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare." In a culture that has oversimplified self-care to mean spa treatments and yoga classes, BIPOC and LGBTQ individuals have often been lost in the shuffle. The trauma of oppression is commonly overlooked and ignored and far too often BIPOC receive pressure to "be strong" or care for others at the expense of their own well-being. In today's climate, self-care has never been more important or more confusing. In this workshop, which will center the needs and experiences of BIPOC, particularly Black students, we will identify healthy ways to balance advocacy, rest, and thriving in a trauma-informed way.
