- Research involves study of Late Paleozoic corals, fusulinids, and stratigraphy of the Cordilleran miogeocline and various tectostratigraphic terranes.

- Ongoing research involves detection of slope instabilities, mechanics of landslide movement, seismically induced ground failures, effective land use planning, and issues of ethics in the geosciences.
