Background

Bethany Winslow is an eLearning Specialist with San José State University’s Center for Faculty Excellence & Teaching Innovation (CFETI) and the dedicated online learning lead for the School of Information (iSchool) graduate portfolio. Since joining SJSU in 2016, she has partnered with faculty and academic leaders to strengthen online pedagogy, improve course quality, and support scalable student success in fully online programs.

From 2021–2025, Bethany served as the iSchool’s outward-facing Director of Online Learning. In 2026, her role formally reintegrated under CFETI while her day-to-day scope remained focused on iSchool online teaching and learning. She manages the iSchool’s onboarding ecosystem for approximately 700+ new graduate students each semester, including coordination of the INFO 203 course and its peer mentor project. She also facilitates iSchool faculty development through her “Teaching Online” course, and provides instructional design consultations and course reviews aligned with institutional standards.

Bethany’s work has included leadership in emerging learning technologies—particularly virtual worlds, VR/immersive learning, and practical uses of generative AI for teaching and faculty support. She has presented on a variety of topics such as technology, immersive learning, online pedagogy, and virtual communities. Bethany holds an M.S. in Education (Online Teaching and Learning) from CSU East Bay and a B.A. in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz (Phi Beta Kappa).
