Shop Access
Full MSPC Access Policy - 03/17/2023 [pdf]
The MSPC/machine shop is only accessible to students who have building access by way of enrollment in a hybrid class such as ME 195b, ME 180, ME 154, or some sections of ME 299/295a/295b.
Additionally, access is only allowed for students who have completed ME 41 Shop Safety or an equivalent course. Students with relevant experience that may waive their ME 41 requirement for the purposes of accessing the machine shop should contact Vinh-Doan Thoi (vinh-doan.thoi@sjsu.edu).
Door codes to the MSPC are no longer being distributed. The names of students approved to use the shop will be given to the shop supervisor or club team leader. Check in with them when you enter the machine shop.
There is a two-step process for getting approval to use the machine shop.
- Fill out the ME Omnilock Request Form to gain shop access. Once your request has been approved by the Lab Director, you will be enrolled in a Canvas safety course that you will need to complete and pass before using the shop.
- After you have been approved and passed the Canvas Safety Course, you can sign up for an appointment to use the shop through the MSPC calendar. An appointment is important because only 15 (or 4 student teams) can be in the shop at one time, and we don't want people coming to campus if the shop is going to be full. The time slots are one hour in length. If you need to be in the shop for longer than an hour, you can sign up for several slots back-to-back. Delete your appointment from your calendar if you need to cancel.
