The College of Social Sciences, College of Graduate Studies, and the Anthropology Department are pleased to offer several grants in support of undergraduate and graduate research. You can find more information by visiting the sections below.

Undergraduate Awards

The Laura Good Undergraduate Research Grant

This grant provides undergraduate students majoring in Anthropology or Behavioral Science the opportunity to fund research projects under the supervision of a faculty member. Up to $500 of support is available per student.

Vecchi Fellowship

The Columbia Vecchi Fellowship in Native American Culture and Society offers support to graduate and undergraduate students conducting scholarship and collaborative work relating to Native American culture for up to $500. 

CoSS Scholarship and Grants

Each year, the College of Social Sciences offers scholarships to students majoring in one of the College's Departments. College Scholarship questions should be directed to the College of Social Sciences Dean’s Office at 408-924-5300 or by contacting the Associate Dean for Research. 

SfAA Travel Awards

The Society for Applied Anthropology proudly sponsors prestigious awards including the Malinowski Award, the Peter K. New Award, and the Sol Tax Award; as well as co-sponsoring the Margaret Mead Award with the American Anthropological Association. In addition, the Society offers 12 student travel awards to help offset the costs of attending the Annual Meeting.

Graduate Awards

Stubbs-Davis Graduate Fellowship

This fellowship is awarded to an incoming student in SJSU’s master’s degree program in Applied Anthropology and includes an unrestricted honorarium of $2000. Preference is given to students who are first-generation college students and those who demonstrate evidence of financial need.

Nuttall Graduate Fellowship

This fellowship is awarded to a continuing student in SJSU’s master’s degree program in Applied Anthropology and includes a $1000 award. To be eligible for the award, a student must have completed a minimum of 15 units towards his or her graduate degree.

Reckmeyer Global Fellow Award

This annual award honors graduate students whose work demonstrates scholarly excellence and global perspectives and includes a $1000 award.

GRAD Grants

This grant supports graduate research and presentations, which fall under two categories. Research and Development Grants (maximum award: $250) are awarded to  students seeking support for a project that will form the basis of an M.A. project report or thesis. Travel Grants (maximum award: $500) are awarded to students seeking support for travel to an academic conference for the purpose of presenting a professional paper.

College of Graduate Studies Funding Opportunities

As a new or prospective graduate student, you might be wondering how to finance your SJSU education. Explore the variety of options available to graduate students for financing a graduate education at SJSU.

Graduate Equity Fellowship

This fellowship is available only to California resident students admitted and enrolled in a master's degree program. Awards from $1,000 to $3,000 may be made to graduate students enrolled at SJSU for the Fall/Spring academic year with a minimum of 6 units taken each semester.
