EOP APPLICATION CRITERIA
- First-generation college student
- Their parent(s) have not earned a 4-year degree or higher in the US
- Parental degrees (4-year degree or higher) awarded outside of the US may be considered after the initial EOP decision notification
- Limited-income
- The CSU and EOP application provides space for a student's economic background
- FAFSA or CADAA Student Aid Index (SAI) under 1500
- Submission by the EOP deadline of January 31st
- The date subject to change based on additional information and guidance from the Financial Aid Office/EOP
- The SAI (Student Aid Index) is used to demonstrate an applicant's limited income and is determined by the FAFSA/CADAA:
- SAI under 1500: will receive priority evaluation
- SAI is betwwen 1501- 2500: will receive consideration if the program is not full and there is space available
EOP will request student submission of the EOP FAFSA/CADAA SAI Verification to finalize their EOP acceptance.
- Have two (2) recommendation forms submitted on their behalf as part of the EOP application by the EOP deadline of January 31st
* Please note that SJSU Online students are not eligible for EOP for any admission term to SJSU EOP.
Students already admitted to SJSU for Fall 2025 or earlier are not eligible to apply to EOP for future semesters
SJSU/EOP Former Students Returning
Former EOP students that have re-applied for SJSU admission for any semster (fall or spring) should contact EOP by no later than one month prior to the first day of instruction for the term they have been readmitted to for information on recertifying their EOP status, if they have met the following:
- Students that have been previously accepted to EOP at SJSU and
- In good EOP standing upon their last semester at SJSU and
- Were not removed from EOP for not completing their requirements and
- Have not applied to a SJSU Online program
Spring 2026 EOP Applications
- Which CSU campuses are accepting EOP Applications by term? Be sure to confirm EOP requirements directly with each campus.
- EOP at SJSU does not accept new applications for any spring terms
- As EOP is an admission and retention program, students may only apply to EOP at the time they submit their admission application to SJSU/CSU for their first semester at SJSU/CSU, and are not eligible to apply to EOP in future semesters
- SJSU Online students are not eligible for EOP
SJSU/EOP former students returning need to contact our office directly for any term (fall or spring) that they reapply to SJSU for recertification.
Fall 2026 EOP Applications

An EOP application must be submitted electronically as part of the Cal State Apply application to SJSU, and it is automatically part of the "Supporting Information" tile of the Cal State Apply application

To ensure that you receive priority consideration, be sure to submit your complete EOP application the same time you submit your SJSU application
SJSU/EOP Deadlines

The FAFSA/CADAA date subject to change based on additional information and guidance from the Financial Aid Office/EOP

Late or incomplete applications and/or missing recommendation forms from students applying to SJSU/EOP for the first time are not accepted

SJSU Online students are not eligible for EOP for any term

Students in Community College EOPS programs do not automatically qualify for EOP as they are two separate programs
- All transfers students must submit an application and follow the same procedure as other applicants

ACCEPTED: all students that are conditionally accepted will need to submit the EOP FAFSA/CADAA SAI Verification to finalize their EOP acceptance, the verification will be requested in the status message

DENIED: all students that are denied will have the ability to appeal the decision after the initial EOP decision notification

NO MESSAGE: students that did not submit a complete EOP application will not receive a message, as incomplete applications are not part of our review process

The EOP Appeal process is not intended for and cannot be used for missing deadlines, late, or incomplete applications
