Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students

• Graduate Teaching Assistantships

  • You may be eligible to serve as a TA for biological sciences classes. TAs receive a tuition waiver (half or full depending on the number of course hours you teach) and a stipend. TAs must be graduate students in good standing (at least a 3.0 GPA). Ask your adviser for help identifying suitable teaching opportunities.

    The office of Graduate Studies & Research curates a list of funding opportunities for graduate students that you should check periodically. These opportunities include the Bertha Kalm Scholarship and the Graduate Equity Scholarship Students interested in pursuing PhDs are eligible to apply for the CSU Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program and the Sally Cassanova Pre-Doctoral Scholarship. Finally, you may also be interested in applying for the SJSU Research Competition and Outstanding Thesis Award (both of which include prize money).

    The CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology (COAST) was established in 2008 to integrate system-wide resources and promote interdisciplinary multi-campus collaborations to advance our knowledge of natural coastal and marine resources and the processes that affect them. COAST provides funding for student fellowships, travel awards, and internships.

    CSUPERB ’s mission is to develop a professional biotechnology workforce by mobilizing and supporting collaborative California State University (CSU) student and faculty research, innovating educational practices, and responding to and anticipating the needs of the  life science industry. CSUPERB supports student travel awards, the Don Eden Graduate Student Research Award, the Crellin Pauling Student Teaching Award, and travel to the CSU Annual Biotechnology Symposium.

    The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
