BACKGROUND:
Sara Benson received her Ph.D. in Politics and Feminist Studies from the University
of California-Santa Cruz. Before coming to San Jose State, she held a UC President's
Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Department of History at UCLA. She is a committed teacher
of political theory with a particular focus on American political thought and social
justice. Her first book, The Prison of Democracy: Race, Leavenworth, and the Culture of Law, was published by the University of California Press in 2019.
