Advising for Engineering Graduate Programs

Types of Graduate Advising in the College of Engineering:

• ESSC Advising

  • The ESSC serves all graduate engineering students. Our purpose is to:

    1. assist graduate students in navigating the university, college, and departmental policies and procedures
    2. connect students to campus and community resources
    3. support student success with programs and services that address existing needs
    4. help students stay on track to graduate

    
    Marta R. Rodenas, Graduate Advisor, is available to advice on the topics below, during her drop-in hours and through Spartan Connect. See her current hours for drop-ins and appointments.

    Some of the common topics available through advising within our center are: Probation / Disqualification; Forms and petitions; Graduate policies; Registration inquiries, e.g. enrollment in 1290R, holds, etc.; Leave of absence; and more.

• Academic/Faculty Advising

  • Your department academic advisor listed under College of Graduate Studies / College of Engineering will assist with questions about curriculum, program requirements, etc.

• Peer Advising

  • Front Desk and ESSC shared mailbox (graduate-engineering@sjsu.edu) can answer general questions.

In-person Help Desk

The in-person help desk in the Engineering building on the 1st floor in ENG 116 is staffed by our peer advisors during the hours below. Bring your student Tower ID card. Service is first-come, first-served. Find our office on the map of the College of Engineering building [pdf].

Our normal business days and hours, unless otherwise posted, are:

Monday through Friday
8:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon
1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
(closed for lunch daily 12:00 - 1:00)

Drop-in Advising

Drop-in and regular advising with a professional advisor as well as career advising are available during specific hours. Please see our schedule for hours of availability for each.
