Graduation & Commencement
Apply for graduation
Students must apply for graduation in order to receive their degree. View eligibility requirements on the Registrar's website.
Students graduating Fall 2022 or later must apply online, via their MySJSU. The Office of the Registrar will no longer accept paper applications. Please see the Registrar's graduation website for details.
Tutorial on applying for graduation [pdf]
Students unable to apply online should contact their graduation evaluator. For situations where a paper application is required, the Registrar's office will provide a link to a Google Form. The graduation evaluator will then work with the student/department to obtain a major form.
Beginning March 2023, General Engineering / Interdisciplinary Engineering majors use a hybrid online/paper form process. Any questions after the student has applied online for graduation via MySJSU should be directed to the IDE major advisor, Ahmed Banafa.
Live Graduation Workshops are held near semester-end (see ESSC calendar for dates & times). An online graduation workshop is also available.

Participate in commencement
Commencement is the ceremony most people think of as graduation. An application must be submitted in order to participate in commencement. Commencement is purely ceremonial and separate from actual graduation, so incomplete requirements will not affect your ability to participate.
Eligible students need to register for the in-person commencement ceremony (see email to eligible students regarding Spring 2023 event registration). For up-to-date information and announcements, see the Commencement web site and Instagram page.
Ceremony registration/RSVP deadline: Monday, April 24 at 12:00 p.m.
If you have any questions about commencement (eligibility, attending a ceremony other than Engineering's, tickets, etc.), please contact the Commencement team and include your student ID number.
Spring 2023 Commencement
The two ceremonies for Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering will take place on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Event Center. (Check in no later than 30 minutes before start time; venue opens 1 hour before start time.) Check the Commencement Schedule for more details, such as which departments' ceremonies are at which time.
