Submit a TEP

Before Proceeding

Make sure you have read all parts of the Transfer Equivalency Petition process and reviewed the FAQ or talked with your major advisor to ensure you are ready to submit your petition(s).

Be Complete and Accurate

You will need to upload:

  1. a digital copy of the syllabus for each transfer course you list, from the term and year you took the course;
  2. a digital copy of your transcript (unofficial is acceptable) that shows the grade and units earned for the transfer course.

If you realize you've left something off, please contact the sender of the DocuSign form. If you're contacted for additional documentation, please respond promptly. Mistakes cause delays.

Be Appropriate

Make sure your transfer credit is already posted on your MySUSU account. Evaluations are done on transcript(s) you send to SJSU, and your transfer course may already articulate to the SJSU course you need. Courses like these don't need evaluation by an academic department.

Questions about GE requirements or equivalencies should be discussed with an advisor to determine the appropriate option. For example, if you feel your course should fulfill a different GE Area, contact instead of submitting a TEP or other equivalency request.

One More Thing...

As of July 2022, ESSC no longer processes equivalency requests for College of Science courses.

  • Engineering or Aviation majors can use a CoE Transfer Equivalency Petition (TEP) only for specific courses in subjects listed on the form. Please see our FAQ for details.
  • Equivalency for a College of Science course must use a different form, through the College of Science Advising Center, CoSAC. Please see our FAQ for details.

If you have any questions, please contact the ESSC before starting the petition. You cannot edit the petition once submitted. If you notice an error, please contact the sender of the DocuSign email to provide your correction. Do not generate a duplicate petition.

Processing can be delayed during intersessions and peak periods. If you need to meet an immediate prerequisite or graduation requirement, please note this on your petition.
