Announcing the New Vice Provost for Academic Innovation

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Randall Fullington will be joining San José State University as our new Vice Provost for Academic Innovation beginning July 1, 2026. Dr. Fullington comes to SJSU from the University of Colorado Boulder, where he currently serves as Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Academic and Learning Innovation. He brings significant experience in academic leadership, student success, curriculum development, and inclusive teaching and learning, and I am excited to welcome him to our academic leadership team.

Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation will lead the newly reconfigured Office of Academic Innovation, a central office that serves as a strategic resource for and partner to SJSU’s colleges and academic units. In this role, Dr. Fullington will help expand professional, continuing, and online education programs to increase access to education and meet evolving learner and workforce needs. He will also support efforts to deepen global engagement and partnerships, elevate SJSU’s international visibility and impact, and advance specialized programs that serve both the university and the broader San José community, including advancing the work of our Testing and Passport Offices.

Dr. Fullington earned his PhD in English from the University of Colorado Boulder and has taught across a range of domains, including composition, literature, and popular media. He has also developed curriculum and co-directed summer bridge programs supporting first-generation and traditionally underrepresented students. Earlier in his career, he served in administrative roles in higher education focused on student services and program support.
