IMS Supported Classrooms, Features, and Troubleshooting

Instructional and Meeting Spaces (IMS) provides audio visual classroom equipment support for all of our adopted classrooms.

Below is a detailed display of classrooms, features, equipment, and troubleshooting support tips.

Troubleshooting Support Tips

• Tablet/iPad

  • IMS does not provide desktop or tablet/iPad support. We do not recommend and cannot guarantee tablet/iPad compatibility with our in-room technology systems. To ensure reliability anywhere on campus, we recommend checking out a Mac or PC laptop for the semester at sjsu.edu/equipmentcheckout. In order for your device to function with our in-room technology please double check your resolution settings and ensure you know how to navigate the device settings for your device.

• No Sound
  • 1. Review classroom instructions near the podium
    2. Restart device and reconnect cables securely
    3. Room System is powered on or restarted
    4. Room System and computer volume are up and not muted
    5. Cables & adapters securely plugged in at both ends
    6. Only connect ONE of the following to your laptop: VGA+Audio, or HDMI (both cannot work at the same time) 
       1. VGA: Audio cable plugged into laptop's headphone jack
       2. HDMI: NO audio cable is plugged into laptop's headphone jack
    7. Correct audio input selected on Room System Controller
    8. Laptop's sound output settings are set to headphone/VGA or HDMI/projector

• No Display
  • 1. Review classroom instructions near the podium
    2. Restart device and reconnect cables securely
    3. Room System is powered on or restarted
    4. Cables & adapters securely plugged in at both ends
    5. Only connect ONE of the following to your laptop: VGA+Audio, or HDMI (both cannot work at the same time)
       1. VGA: Audio cable plugged into laptop's headphone jack
       2. HDMI: NO audio cable is plugged into laptop's headphone jack
    6. Correct source inputs selected on Room System Controller
       1. Switch to another input, wait 10 seconds, and switch back to the correct input
    7. Computer display output settings & resolution are correct
       
       

       Mac:
       For optimal display on older classroom projectors, we recommend using the VGA connection (with a VGA adapter) instead of HDMI. This usually immediately resolves resolution and display issues that may occur with HDMI.

• Display is too small or cut off

  • Mac:
    Apple/Mac Resolution Settings
    For optimal display on older classroom projectors with Macs, we recommend using the VGA connection (with a VGA adapter) instead of HDMI. This usually immediately resolves resolution and display issues that may occur with HDMI.

• Projector showing a different desktop, background, or window
  • 1. Correct source input (& display output, if applicable) selected on Room System Controller
       
       Mac:
       Settings > Display > Mirror
       
       PC/Windows:
       Settings > System Display > "Duplicate these displays"
       
       Chromebook/Android:
       Device section > Displays > Built-in Display > Display size
